Welcome to our first newsletter as UHC2030. It’s an exciting time as we welcome several new signatories to UHC2030, and celebrate multi-stakeholder working for universal health coverage at country and global level. We’ve also launched our publication: Healthy systems for universal health coverage: a joint vision for healthy lives.

Universal health coverage: an affordable dream?
The advancement towards UHC is both technically possible and economically feasible, even for low- and middle-income countries; therefore political commitment is required to make it a reality. These were two key messages to come out of the UHC2030 high-level event on universal health coverage held on the margins of the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) 2017 in New York on 17 July 2017.
Stakeholders gather for UHC2030 Steering Committee
The first UHC2030 Steering Committee Meeting took place on 15-16 June in Geneva, Switzerland. The objectives of the meeting were to take stock of progress in establishing UHC2030 and consolidate working arrangements; review progress on UHC2030 work plan; discuss findings of effective development cooperation monitoring and follow-up; agree on approaches to accountability, knowledge sharing and advocacy; and agree on co-chairs and functioning of constituencies.
The energy and enthusiasm in the room for the movement to build stronger health systems for universal health coverage was palpable during the World Health Assembly high-level side-event on 24 May 2017.
